Anantnag, Oct 10 (KNC): The bodies of two soldiers who had been missing since Monday were recovered from the Gadool area of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Friday.
Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that the second soldier’s body was retrieved this morning after extensive search and rescue operations were carried out by the Army and police.
Earlier on Thursday, the body of the first missing soldier was recovered along with his weapon and rucksack.
The duo had reportedly lost contact with their unit during duty in the Gadool area amid adverse weather conditions and challenging terrain.
Following the recovery, necessary medico-legal formalities are being conducted.
Officials had earlier told KNC that both soldiers went missing on Monday, amid adverse weather as well as difficult terrain with loss of communication were believed to have played a role in the incident.
Teams from the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police coordinated closely during the multi-day search to ensure the recovery of both personnel.
Authorities have urged locals to cooperate with security forces and exercise caution while moving in the area. (KNC)
