Srinagar, Sep 26 (KNC): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday criticised the Centre for failing to honour commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and firmly rejected accusations of supporting violence in Leh.

While speaking to reporters CM Omar, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC said, “It’s difficult to understand what the Centre is up to — they make tall promises and then backtrack. Since they were targeting Sonam Wangchuk, his arrest was not surprising. People of J&K took part in the democratic process, but the assurances given to them remain unfulfilled. I don’t know what pressures the Centre is under.”

On allegations that he had condoned violence, Omar dismissed the charge, accusing Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma of repeatedly offering “excuses.”

He said, “I have never defended violence, nor do I hold the position of Ladakh’s LG. The LoP must stop hiding behind excuses. Why should the people of J&K be punished? Just because he sits in opposition and is not Chief Minister, the Centre is holding back statehood?”

Reacting to Sharma’s statement that Abdullah “enjoys” such unrest, the CM asked why he would ever justify bloodshed. “He is in the habit of deflecting. I have no role in Ladakh’s security. I never supported the violence there. Instead of pointing fingers, he should explain why promises made to Ladakh were broken. What is stopping the BJP from keeping their word?” Abdullah said.

Challenging the idea that statehood depends on BJP’s return to power, Abdullah asserted, “Is J&K’s only fault that the LoP is not the CM? If statehood is linked to BJP rule, then they should openly tell the court that restoration will only happen once they are in office. We won’t let them gain power so easily. If they plan to withhold statehood for this reason, let them, we will endure.” (KNC)
