Srinagar, Feb 5 (KNC): National Conference MLA and Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq on Thursday said that while the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir is welcome, it should also be used as an opportunity to fulfil the long-pending promise of restoring statehood to the Union Territory.
Speaking to media persons, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC), Tanvir Sadiq said, “The Home Minister is visiting Jammu and Kashmir, and he should certainly come. But I want to remind him that the assurance given to us in Parliament regarding the restoration of statehood this is the right and appropriate time to deliver on that promise.”
He also raised concern over increasing attacks on Kashmiris outside Jammu and Kashmir, saying the issue can no longer be ignored. “Kashmiris are being targeted outside the region. I believe the time has come to put a complete stop to this. The Home Minister must take this matter very seriously,” he said.
Commenting on the killing of terrorists in the Jammu province, Tanvir Sadiq said the situation was worrying despite the efforts of security forces. “On one hand, it is reassuring that our Army and paramilitary forces are doing their job effectively. But on the other hand, it is deeply concerning because these areas were earlier considered terrorism-free,” he said.
He added that the re-emergence of such incidents needs serious introspection. “Why is this happening again? Why is there a resurgence of terrorism in these areas? This needs to be thoroughly examined,” Tanvir Sadiq said. (KNC)
